What is Basecamp?
Basecamp is a web-based project management tool which was launched in 2004. Since then it has become the world’s leading project management tool, with just over 15 million users to date. According to their website, over 5,000 companies signed up in the last week!
Basecamp is very easy to use. It runs on cloud servers so there are no technical problems to deal with. It is compatible with both web browsers and smartphones. It also has a 99.996% uptime record over the last 12 months so there are never any delays to your project.
Who uses Basecamp?
Freelancers, small & medium companies and large multinationals all use Basecamp. It is rare that a business tool is equally as powerful for both big and small companies.
What makes Basecamp different is that your client can also use Basecamp and interact with the project. It is important to note that you can also hide certain discussions, files or documents if necessary.
What are its functions?
As mentioned , Basecamp is a web-based project management tool. It is used to control the flow of a project regardless of the project size. Below is an example of an over view of a project, let’s discuss the main functions.
Projects – This shows you all of your projects
Schedule – This shows you all up-coming events or important dates. Reminders are e-mailed to you when these important dates are approaching.
Everyone – This shows other members project updates
Me – This shows all the “To-do’s” that are assigned to you, each file you have uploaded and all of your activity on Basecamp
Underneath all of these you can see another menu which is located within each project. These are also the headings as you scroll down through your project.
Discussions – These are where ideas, notes or any discussions between project members and/or the clients can interact and discuss the project. This is also a great place to post work for review, brainstorm ideas with co-workers, store important project assets (logos, documents, etc.), and present work to your boss or manager too.
To-Do’s – Here you can set up to-do’s in the project. Each member on the project can create and assign to-do’s to any other member on the project which includes a deadline. This deadline is then added to the Calendar. You can comment on or discuss the to-do’s within each to-do
Files – This is where all documents, photo’s or any other type of files are stored in the project.
Text Documents – These are handy for taking notes while meeting with the client or for adding any brainstorming sessions.
Dates – Shows upcoming events for the project
